Owner Operators Jobs description
An owner operator in the trucking business is a self-employed commercial truck driver who owns as well as operates his own truck to transport goods for the purpose of earning income. An owner operator may either work as a freelancer or may enter into a lease agreement with a particular company or person. Owner operators may drive a variety of vehicles like vans, trucks, flatbeds, car haulers, tankers etc.The primary responsibility of an owner operator is to drive the vehicle safely and deliver a customer’s freight on time. Other important duties include behaving in a friendly and courteous manner with customers, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, updating delivery records and ensuring freight is delivered to the correct location.
For an owner operator job, a candidate must possess a valid CDL. Previous OTR experience and a good driving record are also important. Truck must pass DOT and USA inspections. It is also important for an owner operator to have truck title and proof of insurance.
