Flatbed Driver Jobs
A flatbed is a long, open trailer that is used to transport building materials, aluminum products, large machinery and other large items. It is the responsibility of a flatbed driver to drive a commercial vehicle safely within a regional area.
A flatbed driver may also have to load and unload freight from a flatbed when required, which can be physically taxing as it involves crawling over the trailer to secure the freight with straps, chains and tarp. Checking the load frequently during transit and making necessary adjustments, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, and detecting and eliminating safety hazards are other aspects of a flatbed driver’s job.
For a flatbed driver job, a high school diploma or a G.E.D is preferred. Minimum age requirement generally varies between 21-25 years. A candidate must be the holder of a valid class A CDL. Prior flatbed hauling experience is required. The candidate must be able to follow written and oral instructions and also meet the physical demands of the job.
