CDL stands for commercial drivers' license, which is required to be obtained by a truck driver before he can drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV). CDL licenses are issued by The States or approved testing facilities after the driver passes a written and driving test. CDL truck drivers are classified as Class A, Class B or Class C according to the amount of weight allowed to carry or the type of trucks these drivers are allowed to drive. Those people looking forward to working in CDL trucking jobs should possess a commercial driver's license in order to drive a large truck similar to an 18 wheeler.

A trucker’s job requires driving of tractor-trailers which require much advanced skills and knowledge beyond that of driving cars or other light weight vehicles. A truck driver, also widely known as trucker, is mainly responsible for transportation of goods over land. Organizations and companies require their products to be delivered to their consumers and this leads to the demand for trucking jobs. As far as requirements go, truck drivers do not need to be highly qualified.

The trucking industry is very vast and the job opportunities for the truckers are really very significant as they have to meet the daily needs of the industries. With the growth and development of the industries there is always a need to bring in raw material, deliver finished goods to the clients etc and therefore the need of a reliable and great transportation service is present. Therefore in order to meet the growing demand of the commercial world there are numbers of CDL trucking jobs available.

There are different types of trucking jobs available and some of the most common ones are the jobs for company driver, owner operator, over the road, regional, local and many others.

The truck driver needs no educational background but the trucker driver should possess the two basic qualities i.e. ability and willingness to perform the duties or job effectively and on time. The background history of the person applying for trucker jobs will be checked. The background history will include the driving license of the applicant, the driving record, criminal records, etc. The applicants for the truck driver jobs should also have to ability to pass a physical and drug screen test.

Though there is no need of any educational background, there are some basic qualifications which a truck driver should possess. The truck driver should be above 22 years of age and should be able to stay away from home for at least seven days. The truck driver should have no bad records or criminal records for convictions related to drugs and alcohol in the period of last five years. The truck driver also should not have more than one drug or alcohol convictions on his record. Other than this the truck driver should have a valid driver’s license for one year.

In today’s hard economic times trucking jobs are high in demand. Trucking jobs provide a great opportunity for the trucker to travel to different places and meet new friends. This job can be very beneficial from the point of view of job stability, excellent benefits etc. Those people looking to pursue their career in trucking are definitely look at a good option as the salaries earned by senior truckers may go up to $80,000 annually.
