Pasadena, CA - According to the National Employment Report released by the United States Department of Labor, the economy added 148,000 total nonfarm jobs in September with the addition of 126,000 private-sector jobs, which makes a total of more than 7.6 million new private-sector jobs over the last 43 consecutive months of growth. Transportation and warehousing added 23,000 jobs in September. Most of the increase occurred in transit and ground passenger transportation with a gain of more than 18,000 jobs. The trucking industry, including heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers who transport goods from one location to another, will continue to see faster-than-average gains. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, truck transportation employment is projected to grow 21 percent from 2010 - 2020, which is faster than the average of all occupations. With the growing economy, the demand for goods will increase, and more truck drivers will be needed to keep supply chains moving, according the Bureau of Labor Statistics. "With trucks transporting most of the freight in the United States, growth in the trucking industry will continue," said Harrison Barnes, Chief Executive Officer of Employment Research Institute, the parent company of TruckingCrossing. "This industry and sector has seen job growth, and will continue to move up as households and businesses increase their spending."

Conducting a job type search on TruckingCrossing.com showed a significant rise in the number of active trucking jobs (55,500) that exist in the following categories: Truck Driver (18,600), CDL Trucking (18,400), Class B Truck Driver (10,800), Transport Driver (6,650), OTR (4,200), Owner/Operator (1,650), and Local Truck Driver (1,650).

Also up are truck sales, which saw an increase for the first time in 13 months. In the news story appearing in Transport Topics, U.S. retail Class 8 truck sales gained 11.3% from a year earlier for a total of 16,125 vehicles. "The increase suggests a trend that will continue as job prospects are expected to be favorable, with a market is supporting an industry that will continue to benefit from a growing economy," said Barnes. "The current data suggests that those with experience and qualifications should be able to find a job as the employment will trend upward through the end of this decade."
